Electrical Engineer needed in Norco, LA

• Duration: 2 years or longer- This role is anticipated to go through the 2019 turnaround.

Electrical Engineer needed for a contract position hired to work under client’s technical direction, policies, and procedures. This position supports the electrical facilities for the plant which typically include the design of electrical equipment for maintenance repairs or small capital projects. Position may also provide technical support to the Maintenance Department.

The Electrical Engineer will be expected to:

• Perform work activities efficiently while continuously looking for cost-saving opportunities.
• Become familiar with the client’s electrical engineering standards.
• Perform research to apply the appropriate engineering principles, standards, and codes to meet client’s requirements.
• Perform field surveys and study drawings, maps, graphs, diagrams, and other data to identify and correct power system problems.
• Analyze design specifications, manuals, proposals, and other data to evaluate the cost, feasibility, and maintenance requirements.
• Review drafting design to confirm appropriate specifications were incorporated.
• Analyze and test the design, operation, and performance of equipment, components, and systems.
• Prepare specifications for purchase of electrical components and materials.
• Assist in the development of Electrical Distribution Systems, Single Line Diagrams, and Protection Schemes.
• Maintain an understanding of Electrical Short Circuit and Load Flow studies.
• Maintain an understanding of Electrical Protective Device Coordination Studies.
• Maintain an understanding of Electrical Arc Flash Analysis.
• Develop Substation Arrangements as requested.
• Review vendor drawings for specification compliance.
• Coordinate in-house electrical design drafting activities including, but not limited to, the following:

o Power distribution systems (underground and overhead)
o Lighting
o Grounding

• Develop cost estimates and submit bids for engineering, construction, or turnaround projects, and prepare contract documents.
• Assist with solving complex problems with customers, suppliers, and support organizations.
• Conduct and/or participate in technical reviews of specifications, designs, codes, and other requirements.
• Evaluate engineering approaches and risks to produce and progress development plans.
• Prepare and present technical status reviews to client.
• Assist with the commissioning of new electrical equipment.
• Work with other professionals and SMEs to obtain input to recommendations.
• Use conceptual, research, analytical skills, in addition to mathematical modeling and computer-aided design tools.
• Incorporate reliability best practices in job plans
Desired Skills: 
The ideal Electrical Engineer will have:

• Degree in Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and/or Bachelor of Engineering with concentration in electrical engineering.
• Minimum 3 years of experience as electrical engineer in petro-chemical industry.
• Knowledgeable of various crafts (pipe fitting, welding, boiler making, electrical, rotating equipment, instrumentation).
• Proficient in reading drawings, blueprints, isometrics, P&IDs, etc.
• High level of technical and scientific knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to practical problems.
• Familiar with 3D modeling and design.
• Ability to understand field changes and red-line drawings.
• Advanced computer skills in computer-aided design.
• Intermediate/advanced skills in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Familiar with MOC process and PSSR (pre-startup safety reviews) process.
