Job Description: 

We need an experienced Instrumentation & Electrical Designer to support projects from engineering office but also perform field work on a regular basis.

Location: Downtown Houston with Travel to Plants in the Greater Houston Area.

The I&E Designer will:

• Facilitate project design and drafting management in accordance with industry and company STD’s as necessary in order to verify the successful completion of project related activities.
• Provide standardized PFD/P&ID symbology for drawing development.
• Provide/Verify electrical equipment and instrument tagging numbers.
• Initiate and provide new Facility Codes for grass root facility projects.
• Resolve drawing development issues.
• Work with third parties to identify existing drawings for editing.
• Review and identify any deviation from the Company standards for drawing development.
• Perform technical and administrative reviews of design packages submitted by third parties to verify compliance with all relevant Company specifications, industry codes and standards, and accepted practices.
• Review project “Issued” drawings.
• Review project “As-Built” drawings.
• Prepare process flow diagrams (PFD), piping & instrument diagrams (P&ID), general equipment layouts, facility plot plans, and equipment and instrument lists for various company plant, pipeline, and related facilities construction projects.
• Assist in the development of project scopes, engineering/design scopes, and construction scopes of work for use in the establishment of contracts with third parties.
• Attend project meetings to obtain full understanding of customer needs and scope definitions and to provide technical input toward efficient and effective designs.
• Assist in the review of man hour estimates and work schedules in order to verify efficiency in the execution of projects.
• Coordinate the distribution of design packages related to projects in order to verify stakeholders are allowed input and necessary information is exchanged.
• Provide design and drafting services for time/budget critical projects.
• Provide design and drafting services associated with the preliminary development of potential projects.
Desired Skills: 
The ideal I&E Designer will have:

• 10+ years of experience working drafting and design in petrochemical industry (preferred).
• Owner/Operator experience.
• Field experience.
• Knowledge of various petrochemical standards and codes: ANSI, ASME, PFI, etc.
• The ability to read and understand multiple discipline drawings including piping, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, civil, structural, and architectural.
• The ability to comprehend rough sketches and specifications in order to update existing drawings as well as creating new drawings.
• The ability to stay on schedule in an open forum environment.
• Highly proficiency with AutoCAD (orthographic (2D) and/or isometric (3D) designs).
• Advanced knowledge of basic petrochemical industry engineering design standards.
• Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat.
• Proficiency in reading mechanical drawings, blueprints, isometrics, P&IDs, etc.
• High level of technical and scientific knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to practical problems.
• The ability to understand field changes and red-line drawings.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving and time management skills.
• Intermediate skills in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Attention to detail.
