Job Description: 
The Shift Safety Coordinator is a contract position hired to work under technical direction, policies, and procedures. The position performs safety assessment tasks associated with plant operations and mechanical work during projects according to schedules and plans.

The Shift Safety Coordinator will:

• Verify contract personnel comply with the safety policies and procedures.
• Complete safety audits of the contractors and personnel on site.
• Prepare and issue permits in accordance with the Area Ownership Map.
• Prepare and execute proper Lock Out Tack Out (LOTO) of equipment in accordance with the Area Ownership Map.
• Take immediate action to correct or determine the course of action necessary to correct recognized hazards in the work place.
• Perform daily jobsite housekeeping task as necessary including rolling hoses, washing down walkways, and picking up debris.
• Deliver periodic safety meetings.
• Perform daily job site inspections in reference to required safety rules, policies, and procedures and report the findings to management.
• Attend safety educational programs to keep current on the regulations and methodologies for this refinery to stay abreast of the current practices and requirements of our industry.
• Review JSA with permit recipient in order to verify the appropriate hazards are addressed.
• Confirm work completion and area clean-up by the work crew prior to accepting return of permit.
• Notify appropriate permit recipient supervisor or supervision of work conditions that are unacceptable.
• Verify all completed and cancelled permits are returned to the Operations/Safety Department.
Desired Skills: 
The ideal Shift Safety Coordinator will have:

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in working turnarounds or projects in Refining/Chemical processing facilities (preferred).
• Minimum 2 – 3 years working safety position in field locations (preferred).
• Trained in site’s and/or project’s permitting procedures.
• Proficient computer skills in MS Word, EXCEL, ACCESS, PowerPoint.
• Familiar with Manage of Change (MOC) procedures.
• Familiar with various maintenance standards, construction and turnaround practices, procedures, etc.
• Trained in OSHA 10 & 30.
• Good teamwork and interpersonal skills.
• Basic safety training and/or site-specific training.
